BMW M5 Concept

BMW has released info on the M5 concept to be shown at the Shanghai Motor Show.  The concept car appears to be an almost production ready preview of the upcoming 2012 BMW M5.  Based on the new 5 Series sedan, this new M5 will no longer use the high revving V10 found in the E60 M5 and instead feature a version of BMW's twin turbo 4.4L V8.  No word on the exact power for the M5 but that engine in the X6M and X5M produces 555 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, a big step up from the 500HP of the V10.

The transmission will be a 7 speed dual-clutch paddle shifted gearbox but there are rumors of a U.S. only manual transmission option.  All the power will be sent to an Active M differential and the car will sit on a performance enhanced suspension.  On the outside, the car will be distinguished from it's lesser siblings by more aggressive bodywork with larger air intakes.  The concept rides 20 inch wheels which are blacked out as are the grill and M side gills.  Expect prices to exceed $90,000 when the car goes into production.
